Rivers are very important to us. They give us water to drink and help plants grow. Many animals, like fish and birds, live in or near rivers. But today, there is a big problem in many countries. Many rivers in the world are very dirty because of human actions.
In a small city, there is a beautiful river called the Blue River. Many years ago, the water was very clean. People liked to swim and catch fish there on hot summer days. However, things changed. Factories put bad water into the river. People threw garbage, like plastic bags, food boxes, and bottles, into the water. Soon, the river smelled very bad, and many fish died. The beautiful Blue River became a black and sad river.
One day, a young student named Tom saw the dirty river on his way to school. He felt very sad. He wanted to do something to help. He talked to his friends and teachers at school. They decided to start a group called "Save Our River."
The next weekend, Tom and his group went to the river. They brought big garbage bags and wore strong gloves. They worked very hard for many hours. They picked up a lot of plastic bottles, old shoes, and other trash. A local newspaper reporter saw them and wrote a story about their great work.
After the news came out on TV and in the newspaper, more and more people wanted to help. Even some factory owners joined them. They promised to stop putting bad water into the river. The city government also gave them money to buy better cleaning tools.
Now, the Blue River is getting cleaner every day. Small fish are coming back, and birds are singing in the trees again. Tom and his friends are very happy. They show us that if everyone works together, we can save our rivers and protect our beautiful earth.
